How to Choose a Spirometry Machine for Your Clinic

If you have a clinic to run, then you already know how important it is for you to rely on technology for certain tests and diagnostic procedures. Spirometry is one of those tests that you often have to do for patients if you suspect some respiratory issues. And, investing in a spirometry machine that will be accurate and reliable is, therefore, a rather important task. Go here to better understand what this test entails.

Anyway, if you’re running a clinic, chances are that you are thinking of finding a good spirometry machine to buy. Yet, you don’t want to rush into things and buy the wrong product – one that you won’t really be happy with afterwards. Therefore, you want to take your time to choose the perfect solution for yourself.

Naturally, there are so many different options on the market nowadays, and that’s something you’ll realize the moment you start doing research on these. The fact that there are so many options is a good thing, but it also makes this decision a bit more difficult, given that you have various things to choose among, and that can lead to you not knowing how to choose. This is why learning how to choose is of utmost importance, and below we are going to share some advice that should help you out with that.

Assess the Needs of Your Clinic

Clearly, you have to start by assessing the needs of your clinic, so as to get a better understanding of what it is that you precisely want to get. And, there are various things to consider in order to assess your needs, from the volume of testing, to the types of patients you’ll be treating because pediatric and elderly patients, as well as those that have some severe lung diseases may require some specialized features. Finally, think about whether you want to use this machine for basic screening or for advanced diagnostic testing.

Decide Between Desktop and Handheld Models

Once you have identified your needs, the next thing you will have to do is decide between a desktop and a handheld model. Both come with their own advantages. So, a handheld spirometry machine for clinics is ideal for primary care, occupational health, as well as field testing, as it is portable and lightweight, and allows for quick screening. On the other hand, a desktop model is more robust, and it is often a good option for hospitals, specialty clinics, as well as research settings.

Check Accuracy

Naturally, regardless of the model you choose, you will want it to be completely accurate. This is definitely non-negotiable, because poor accuracy can affect the quality of care you are providing your patients with, which is undeniably not a good thing. So, you should do your best to check accuracy before making any final purchases.

Check Compliance

In addition to that, you should also check compliance with the recognized standards. Compliance will also give you a better idea about accuracy, so these two factors often go together. The idea is for you to choose a spirometry machine that is known to be in adherence with the important standards, as that will be a kind of a guarantee that it will work perfectly for your clinic.

Consider Hygiene and Patient Comfort Features

One of the main things to consider here is, naturally, hygiene. You want to avoid infections, so you should go for a machine that offers things like disposable filters to prevent cross-contamination, that is in compliance with the infection control guidelines, and that is easy to clean. Apart from that, you should think about patient comfort features as well, aiming at offering the very best to your patients. Those comfort features can include things like short testing time, comfortable mouthpieces, as well as visual incentive graphics.

Consider Ease of Use

In addition to all of the features we have mentioned, you should also do your best to choose a machine that is quite easy to use. You want to be sure that your staff will be able to get the hang of it rather quickly, and that you won’t have problems training them to use this diagnostic machine. So, check user-friendliness before deciding on anything.

Choose the Right Supplier

Naturally, you’ll have to do your best to choose the right supplier. So, take time to check out different ones, finding them online or through getting recommendations from other people. Check their experience levels, as well as their reputation, and always aim at shopping at reliable and trustworthy places.

Compare the Prices

Finally, remember to compare the prices as well. This, however, does not mean that you should aim at choosing a machine with the lowest price, since quality should always come first. Yet, comparing the prices, while keeping in mind all of the other mentioned factors, will help you ultimately get the best value for your money.
