Firestick 4k Doesnt Detect The USB Drive
My Fire TV Stick 4K will not recognize the USB flash drive for external storage. Last month suddenly my Firestick 4k Doesnt Detect USB Drive won’t recognize when I add a USB flash drive for external storage to my USB adapter line. Once added, the USB drive should appear in the My Fire TV menu and as external storage under STORAGE.
Firestick 4k Doesn’t Detect The USB Drive.
I’ve used Firesticks for years and suddenly, my 4k Firesticks won’t recognize USB external storage anymore. I tried the suggestions on the internet to fix the problem but none of them worked. My Firestick 4k Doesnt Detect USB Drive max stick and fire tv cube are working fine with my USB flash drive storage attached, so all I can guess is that the latest software version the Firestick 4k Doesnt Detect USB Drive is using more programs than a different 4k max or cube is using. If anyone can help with this, it would be greatly appreciated.
Amazon Fire TV USB Driver Not Working
The USB Port on Amazon Fire TV allows you to connect a USB drive so you can videos directly from an external drive. Sometimes it may take some troubleshooting for the USB drive to be detected and work properly. If you are having issues with the USB driver not working properly on Fire TV,
Force Remote Reset
Sometimes a quick reset fixes everything. To reset Fire TV from remote:
Press and hold the “Select” and “Play” buttons on the remote at the same time until the Fire TV resets. The screen should black and then show the Fire TV logo. These steps will restart the Fire TV and will not clear watch videos on the device.
Make Sure Drive Is Supported
Make sure the driver you are using meets the appropriate specifications. Some Fire TV devices only support a USB 2.0 compatible USB drive that is 128GB or less in size.
A USB drive on Firestick 1st and 2nd generation will not work for app storage. Firestick Lite and Firestick 3rd generation will allow apps to be moved to a USB stick.
Format Drive
If you intend to use the USB drive to watch a video using the Fire TV Media player, it must be formatted. Use another device such as a computer to format the drive to the FAT32 file system.
- Windows Instructions
- macOS Instructions
If you intend to use the USB drive to store Fire TV apps, it must be formatted by Fire TV using the following steps:
Press the Home button to go to the Fire TV’s Home screen.
Select “Settings” ⚙️.
To Select “My Fire TV”.
Select “USB Drive”.
Select the “Format to External Storage” option.
You may need to restart the Fire TV before moving the apps to the drive.
Turn off ADB Debugging
USB Port on Fire TV will not work with attached external drives if ADB Debugging is enabled. ADB Debugging is often used by Developers when writing applications for the device. You probably don’t need to enable it. Check the setting and make sure it is disabled with these steps:
Scroll down from “Settings” and select “My Fire TV” or “System”.
Select “Developer Options”.
Change “ADB debugging” to “Off”. (Some devices may appear as “USB debugging”)
After turning this setting off, restart the Fire TV and you’re good to go!
Provide Proper Power
When you add a USB drive to your Fire TV, it may require a little more power. Make sure you use a power block that will provide enough power to the Fire TV and USB drive.
Recommended Power Sources for Fire TV
Firestick (All Generations) – 5.25V, 1A, 5W
Fire TV Cube – 12V, 1.25A, 15W
The Fire TV Box (1st Gen) – 6.25V, 2.5A, 16W
Fire TV Box (2nd Generation) – 15V, 1.4A, 21W
Fire TV (Necklace) – 5.2V, 1.8A, 9W
If you’ve tried multiple power blocks and still have problems, try replacing the power cord.
Make Sure Apps Are Not Conflicting
If your Fire TV has an app-like file manager or video player installed, it may be conflicting with the built-in Fire TV USB functionality. FireOS will not work with external drives if other applications can access the drive. Uninstall any apps that can access the USB drive to see if the issue is resolved.
Once the problematic app is removed, completely power off your Fire TV for 10 seconds and then plug it back in. After the Fire TV has fully booted, remove and re-plug the USB drive.
For me, ES File Explorer was causing a problem. I had to remove it altogether. Setting the app to deny USB storage permission didn’t work. As long as ES File Explorer is installed, the message “No USB Storage Detected” is displayed in External Space.
