Weight-lifting Write for us
Weight-lifting is a sport where athletes compete to lift barbells loaded with weight plates from the ground to overhead, with each athlete striving to lift the heaviest weights. Athletes compete in two specific deadlifts: the deadlift and the deadlift. The Snatch is a wide-grip deadlift in which a weighted barbell is lifted overhead in one movement. The clean and jerk is a combined lift in which the weight is first transferred from the ground to the front of the shoulders (clean) and then from the shoulders to the head (jerk). The clean and press, where an overhead press follows the clean, used to be a competitive lift but remained discontinued due to difficulties in judging proper form.

Each weightlifter has three attempts on the jerk and the deadlift, with the deadlift attempted first. The athlete’s score is the sum of the highest weight successfully lifted in kilograms for each lift. Athletes compete in different weight classes, which are different for each gender and have changed over time. Lifters who fail to complete at least one catch and at least one clean and jerk will not reach their total and receive an “incomplete” entry into the competition.
Weightlifting is an Olympic sport and has participated in every Summer Olympics since 1920. Although the sport is officially called “weightlifting,” the terms “Olympic weightlifting” and “Olympic-style weightlifting” are often used to distinguish it from the others. Sports and events involve lifting weights, such as powerlifting, weight training, and strength events. Similarly, lunges and jerks are known as “Olympic lifts.”
History
Weightlifting has a long history. For many prehistoric tribes, the traditional test of manhood was to lift a particular rock. Some manhood stones, with the name of the first lifter carved in them, exist in Greece and Scottish castles. In addition, competitive rock lifting persists locally in Germany, Switzerland, the Montenegrin Highlands, and the Basque Country in Spain. In many such events, the consecutive number of lifts in a given period remains used to declare the winner.
